Foundations for College Mathmetics II

This is an information sheet only, not the course syllabus.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Topics from elementary algebra and intermediate algebra: operations with algebraic fractions,
solving equations with algebraic fractions, radicals and rational exponents, complex numbers,
solving quadratic equations, variation, solving equations and inequalities involving absolute
value, function notation, graphing functions, inverse functions, exponential and logarithmic
functions, applications, and problem solving. (5 credit hours)

PREREQUISITE
1. MATH0481
(or college equivalent) with a grade of C or better
OR
2. A qualifying score on the mathematics placement test

COURSE MATERIALS
Required Textbook:
Beginning and Intermediate Algebra,
2nd Edition, by Sherri Messersmith, McGrawHill,
2009.

Required Access to MathZone:
This is required for this course. A new textbook purchased
from the COD bookstore should have a registration code for MathZone packaged with the
textbook. This website will be used to complete homework and take quizzes and
tests.

EVALUATION/GRADING
A set of homework assignments are due each week and are submitted online through MathZone.
Quizzes are taken online through MathZone. Tests are also taken online through MathZone, but
unlike quizzes, tests must be taken in person at an approved testing center. The midterm and
final exams are paperpencil
tests (not through MathZone) and must be taken at an approved
testing center.

SATISFACTORY/FAIL OPTION
